Wanderlust

New adventures are right around the corner, and I plan to chronicle them on this blog. Seeing new things, experiencing a new culture, learning a new language, meeting new people-- I will tell you all about it as it unfolds.

I envy your opportunity to experience life in another country and culture. Thanks for chronicling your adventure. I'm looking forward to learning about life in Sweden through you.

Isn't that the Tarot card for The Fool? I hope you realize, he's about to step off a cliff...

Stevie and Kristabel, thank you! I'll think of you when I post updates.

Bob, that's the point! Stepping off into the unknown. Frankly, getting up in the morning is like that too. Anyway, I chose the image for precisely that reason.

The Fool walks out into the World with eyes closed to the clouds at every hand. His face feels warm sunshine and he smiles, knowing the sun will always shine for him.

Will it? Why does the Fool carry his treasure in a bag high on a pole slung over his shoulder, where everyone can see it? And why does he hold the burning passions of his youth where it could so easily catch his treasure-pouch afire?

Ah, well, those are no concerns of his. All the people he meets will no doubt be as loving and kind as the family he is leaving behind in his quest for glory. No thief will snatch what the Fool carries in his bag. No hard times will ever etch sorrow into the face of the Fool. Of course not. The lands he soon will travel will cleanse him of any sorrows he is leaving behind today. The geographic cure for all that ails him, the Fool is in his element. Full of hope. Full of anticipation. Mindful mostly of his dreams.

I was once a Fool.

Relax, it's just a vacation. People survive them all the time!!!

And if I do decide to go there and teach for a year, it's just a gig. That will be ok, too.

But this, this is just a vacation.

Rite on!!! That's the best way to travel. Life is not 'known' ahead of time, life is experienced from moment to moment --right? Cuz like if one's life was predictable --ew how boring..

Fear of the unknown causes a pathological need for control. We see it everywhere we turn. It's about trying to force something which is inherently non-deterministic to be deterministic --otherwise known as mechanistic thinking. Yep, and then to get rid of these fears that mechanistic thinking creates, we invent the idea of controlling and manipulating the external world to make it predictable. This kinda thinking causes big problems cuz at the social level the only way to achieve predictability is power... but you cannot gain power without some violence since you are not the only one who discovered this magic substance. Fear of the unknown is the quintessence of all violence.

Bite the apple, fool.. LOL! and keep blogging too.

glad resanden,

sometimes it behooves us to get rid of the baggage that we bring to a situation so as to make a fresh new start. In which case the thief may be a blessing in disguise.

all depends on how u look at it,
