On the Road

I am leaving tomorrow for The City, where I will spend the night with my high school friend, Kelly, whom I haven't seen for at least 25 years.

I searched for Kelly for years until I finally found her about a year ago on Facebook. Now, we talk on the phone regularly and keep up with each other's lives.

Kelly was by far the coolest chick in middle school AND high school. And now, once again, I have the benefit of her wonderful outlook, enthusiasm and sense of adventure.

I am so excited to see her tomorrow!

I tried to plan for every contingency as I get ready to leave town, but I am the parent of a teen, the ultimate variable. I hope it will be possible to have peace of mind while I am away.

The plane leaves very, very early on Monday morning, and I will travel around the clock and around the planet, by many modes of transportation -- plane, train and automobile -- until finally reaching my destination Tuesday afternoon.

I'm wishing you good luck (and I'm wishing I was going, too.) What a wonderful trip you are going to have!

I hope your travels in Sweden give you a chance to bone up on the influence of Islamic immigrants on Swedish culture and politics. And of course, I want recipes for some traditional spicy Swedish meatballs! Good luck and smooth sailing to you, whether on water, land, or air!

Hi K! Yes, don't you forget to take plenty of photos! Islamics in Sweden? I didn't know about that, that's news to me... interesting. Anyway, be sure your teenager is no baby any longer, he'll manage somehow, just maybe different than as if mom would be home, and then... you didn't drop off the earth, you're "just" on vacation ;-P Now go ahead and knock yourself out and do what you'll have to do pretty lady! Take care. Write. R.

I'm already having so much fun and I haven't even left the country yet! I promise to write. Thank you, friends, so much for keeping up. It's as if I will get to enjoy everything twice: once and then again when I write about it here. :)

And if I type in some words right here, you'll be able to read them all the way over in Sweden? Wow!

Did you bring a lap-top with you, Indie? Have you found any wi-fi hot spots yet?
