Only in the Past

Run away to the seashore it doesn't matter anymore
Doesn't matter anymore
Words dry up and fly away with the passing of the days
Eventually you just let the stone fall

I dreamed that I saw you you were down at the corner store
You were looking through magazines and you flew out the door
I was trying to wave to you but you wouldn't wave back
Now you know I understand you're with me only in the past
Only in the past

My palms are not open they're closed --- they're closed
My palms are not open they're closed --- they're closed

Colors streak the sky, we laugh and we cry
And we dance in the cool grass with the
fireflies
And we dance in the cool grass -- sunset birds
Sweet, sweet music swallows our words
You set sail and you left this town
Run away, run away, you're so far from me now
So far from me now

("Only in the Past," The Be Good Tanyas)

What does the song mean to you?

Well, on one hand, I am sharing music from a band I've been listening to a lot lately. I'm sort of mesmerized by the singer's voice. They do an amazing version of "When Doves Cry," but I can't find a video of it to share.

On the other hand, it's about letting go of love affairs that are over. Bittersweet soft sadness.

Did you like it?

You'll think I'm joshing you, but your opinion of that song is more important to me than my opinion of it.

When I listened and read it, I was thinking, I hope Indie isn't sad.

Well, you sound upbeat enough, judging from your reply, and that's a good thing for starting out a new year.

Yes, I like that song.

But, as you may gather, I like you much more.

May this New Year bring great joys and only minor annoyances, if any, to you and yours!
